The water plays a big part in the West
Australian way of life so chartering a boat for
an event is the perfect way to celebrate the
very best of our maritime lifestyle.
With charters available for both the high seas
and the picturesque Swan River, you have a big
range of choices when organising a function.
Boat charter companies will work with you to
give you exactly what you want for a function that
might be a romantic cruise for two in the Swan
Valley or a wedding for 200 people. Cruises are
also great for family events -- everyone knows how
children are endlessly entertained by water.
Perhaps an "all hands on deck" team-building
adventure on the Leeuwin II, a 19th Century-style
tall ship is what you need to inspire your colleagues,
or why not go further afield and consider chartering
a boat for a function in the tranquil waters of
Geographe Bay or the spectacular Ningaloo Reef?
For the most part, you will be obliged to hire
the boat for a minimum number of hours and
according to the size of the vessel, there may be
some restrictions on where you can take it, but
charter operators will work with you to make sure
that you get what you want.
You can tailor-make a cruise to take a tour past
all the beautiful homes on the Swan River and stop
along the way for a picnic and a swim. Charter boat
operators will also happily stop in at waterside
restaurants for you to enjoy lunch or pick up a
platter. Charter companies can arrange catering
and drinks for you, you can organise your own
suppliers, or you can bring everything yourself.
You can organise a sit-down dinner for 100 on
a river cruise and because some of the boats are
enclosed with glass, bad weather will not put a
dampener on celebrations.
Although twilight sailing is all the rage, the
rules for when one can push off aren't written in
stone. Imagine treating your guests to a gourmet
breakfast as you head off for a day's snorkelling
off Rottnest or Busselton, or frolicking with the
sea lions at Carnac Island. Many boats have dive
platforms and will also take you scuba diving or
whale watching. You can choose motor boats or to
travel under sail.
The ultimate sailing experience must be the
Leeuwin II which can be hired for cocktail parties or
dinners and can accommodate up to 115 people
standing or 50 people seated. Up to 40 people can
also be accommodated overnight or for longer
But what's the best thing about a boat charter?
Firstly, you'll have your guests all to yourself
for the duration of the charter (unless you happen
to have members of the national swimming team
on your guest list), handy for those sick of seeing
people sneak off after mains or when they've
picked up an award.
And secondly, you can get as jovial as you like
and blame any resultant lack of balance on the
Looked high and low but still can't
find your perfect venue? Then maybe
it's time you went o -shore.
