THE EVENT: The Ellington Jazz Club lends
itself perfectly to social get-togethers and
is a great place to entertain colleagues.
THE LOCATION: Located on the fringe
of Northbridge, the Ellington is central
enough to be easily accessible, yet away
from any trouble spots.
THE FACILITIES: The Ellington is a two-level
venue. Downstairs is the main performance
area with a stage, grand piano and state-of-
the-art sound system. Upstairs is a cocktail
lounge, which can be divided into three
separate areas, depending on the size of the
function. Guests can watch the downstairs
performance on a large LCD screen.
THE NUMBERS: The main performance
area downstairs has seating for 80 and
standing room for 50. The upstairs area has
booth seating and standing room for 125
people. When divided into three, the space
features three rooms -- the Miles Davis Room
(which holds about 15), the John Coltrane
Room, which holds 30, and the Dizzy
Gillespie Room, which holds up to 80 people.
THE FOOD: A delicious tapas menu
created by Robert Duvall Foods is available
until late at the Ellington. Catering can be
arranged in advance for functions.
THE BEVERAGES: The Ellington's wine list
has been carefully put together to include
a selection of fine sparkling, white and red
wines, as well as a dessert wine option.
THE COMPANY: When owners Graham
Wood and Bernard Kong opened the
Ellington Jazz Club in March 2009, their
aim was to create a venue that would treat
deserving artists with respect, while allowing
patrons to see the world's best jazz musicians
in action. With an ambience reminiscent of
a New York jazz club, the Ellington features
between 35 and 45 live jazz acts each month.
Guests are treated to cabaret-style table
service as they enjoy the performances.
