Perth Town Hall
The building inspires creative theming
for many types of events – from classical
concerts or glamorous fashion shows to
fantasy themes like the Beaux Arts Ball.
History | Completed in 1870, Perth Town
Hall is an iconic building steeped in WA’s
history and architecture. It is Australia’s
only capital-city town hall built by convicts,
and the country’s only medieval-style town
hall. The hall’s chief architect, Richard Roach
Jewell, was part of the movement called
Victorian Gothic Revival.
Facilities | The venue offers modern sound
and lighting systems, beautiful jarrah floors,
an undercroft and a glass-walled foyer that
is ideal for exhibitions, launches and smaller
functions. It also features a fully equipped
stage, exhibition panelling suitable for art,
information or trade shows, a new caterer’s
prep kitchen, a grand piano and much more.
Architecture | The hall’s exterior is highly
ornamented, featuring a clock tower, three
smaller towers, tourelles, stained glass windows
bearing the city’s original crest, a gabled and
shingled roof and crenellations. The building
is laid out according to the points of the
compass, with the clock tower in the north-
west corner - the rule in medieval times.
Main Hall | This multi-purpose area is
used for civic functions, plays, exhibitions,
concerts, balls, weddings, banquets, public
meetings, plus private and charity events.
Awards | The 10.6 million dollar
restoration of Perth Town Hall, completed
in two stages in 2002 and 2005, won the
Royal Australian Institute of Architecture
(WA chapter) Heritage Council Conservation
Award in both years.
Where | The Town Hall is located in the heart of
Perth’s CBD, within walking distance of hotels and
the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, as well
as major government and commercial premises.
Numbers | The Main Hall can accommodate 400
guests cocktail style; theatre, 340; banquet, 220.
The Lower Foyer accommodates 128 people.
Food | Outside catering packages can be arranged.
Drink | Function hosts can supply their own
liquor but some events require licences.
