The UNICEF Snowflake Ball is one of the biggest charity galas on the
New York City calendar, with a 650-strong guest list of A-listers.
Last year’s event saw big names and UNICEF Ambassadors
like Sarah Jessica Parker and Uma Thurman walk the blue carpet.
Celebrity media pull provides awareness for the cause, with
paparazzi pics published around the world. The Snowflake theme
refers to the saying that children are like snowflakes – each one
is unique and precious.
The 2011 event featured unique decor by award-winning designer
Vern Yip, which included half a mile of mosquito netting donated to
the event by Vestergaard-Frandsen, representing the need to combat
mosquito-borne malaria, the predominant killer of African children.
Live auctions, led by Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s, raised money,
with items for sale including opportunities to participate in a field trip
to see the first-hand effects of UNICEFs worldwide efforts.
The little intricacies that represent the charity’s maxim make
the event one with heart.
