THE MAIN STAGE
A highlight on Australia’s social calendar, the
annual Leeuwin Concert’s reputation attracts
distinguished guests from far and wide.
The tradition of the concerts began in 1985
and has grown into one of the most highly prized
invites in the nation. Visitors from around the
world make the pilgrimmage to Margaret River’s
Leeuwin Estate to enjoy good food, good wine
and great music. Past performances include
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sting and Ray Charles, but
the 2012 concert returned to its classical roots
with soprano Marina Prior, tenor David Hobson
and the Perth Symphony Orchestra.
The 2012 Leeuwin Concert Marquee reflected
a Shanghai-inspired supper club theme. Guests
entered through a frame of black birdcages
strung with red ribbons and white flowers, while
red and black birdcages dangled from the black
silk-lined ceiling. A lounge area was floodlit
with gold lanterns, and a backdrop of green
bamboo overlooked the dance floor, which was
set up under a sea of red acrylic ribbon discs.
Mustard Catering prepared the menu for the
1700 guests, using nine chefs and 109 service
staff. Eighteen tonnes of service equipment and
three tonnes of food were required, including
1800 freshly shucked oysters, 75 litres of beef
jus to go with the 200kg of beef bones, and
180kg of WA seafood.
